The Songbook of the Lonely Ones
Here are lyrics from songs featured that I think have a perfectly Spuffy theme or what I consider fitting for the Spuffy relationship. Currently having 43 song lyrics up here.
Ain't it funny (Jennifer Lopez)
This one is the perfect description for the Buffy/Spike relationship this time I’d give it a rather Buffy POV to the song, with her wondering about true love and just how Spike fits that definition perfectly, after she has admitted her own feelings that is but not necessarily towards him yet.
Always on my mind (Elvis Presley)
Why I chose this song is simple. For me it describes a Buffy that has finally realized that she loves Spike and is remembering how badly she treated him when the only thing he'd wanted was her love and her being able to see that he could and did love her all the time. The lyrics also mean a Buffy that wishes for him to still be in love with her, now that she has realized just how much he means to her. The lyrics are just perfect, except for the 'Girl I'm sorry' part.
Before the dawn (Judas Priest)
This one I see as a character piece for Buffy, more like her thoughts during a dream while thinking of Spike, unconsciously admitting her love for him
Big machine (Goo Goo Dolls)
The song pretty much explains the "relationship" between Buffy and Spike during season 6, and his feelings towards her. for example, she just "turned her anger into lust" and left him in the cold right in the end (submitted by Misz Erica)
Black Balloon (Goo Goo Dolls)
The song signifies Spike`s feelings for Buffy and how ever since she came back from the grave, the slayer and her friends had been going through a tough time and are still going through their personal hells, but even through Buffy`s facade, he sees the beautiful and powerful woman/warrior that she really is, and accepts and loves both of woman and warrior (submitted by Misz Erica)
Bring me to life (Evanescene)
The realization of Buffy that Spike really does love her, that she needs him and that all she needed in life to really live had always been right in front of her.
Change (Good Charlotte)
I think this song is completely describing Spike and his feelings for Buffy as he seeks his redemption, with his soul. He looks at her for companionship, courage, the little bit of sunshine in his life. He's just waiting to make it through this, because he can finally be worthy of her after the redmption he must go through. He knows she's not perfect either, but that's half of his connection with her. (submitted by Ella)
Close to you (Judas Priest)
The next one is a rather sad one and I am amazed to how many fandom couples this one fits, also to Buffy and Spike. This one could be seen shortly after Buffy has died, in that time frame of the 147 days before her resurrection. It just fits Spike’s emotions, the ones of a lover who has lost everything he’s had with maybe never having had it at all and dealing with this loss of a loved one.
Dark side of the glass (Lori Yates)
This one actually I so found fitting once again for Spike, a Spike watching Buffy from the distance, knowing that she never will return his feelings but still not able to let go of her or his feelings for her while having the cruel realization that he’ll never be part of her world and the even crueller one, that he cannot give up trying.
Don't walk away (Rick Springfield)
This made me think of a Spike who is telling this to Buffy, pleading with her that she only is too afraid to admit her feelings for him because she doesn’t want to hurt the rest of the gang’s feelings, reminding her that he’ll not go away or stop loving her and somehow asking her why she’s no longer strong enough to face her own heart’s decision.
Ever fallen (Buzzcocks) *new*
Reasons this song is perfect for Spike: 1. Classic Punk, the Buzzcocks came right on the heels of The Clash and the Pistols. 2. I think the lyrics really express what Spike must've been feeling during most of season five. (submitted by Claire)
(Everything I do) I do it for you (Bryan Adams)
Just perfect for Spuffy, nothing else to say except I think this one is fitting from a Spike POV
Flying on the wings of tenderness (David Hasselhoff)
This one sort of makes me think of a Spike who is wondering about his love for Buffy and about the miracle of finally finding someone like her for him and also of a Buffy who finally has accepted that Spike truly loves her and chosen no longer deny her own feelings for him, the chorus might not be that fitting, but the lyrics are to me
For all eternity (Fight)
This is such a wonderful song describing the Spuffy relationship from either Buffy's or Spike's point of view. I like to think of this song as a duet between the two of them.
For what it's worth (The Cardigans)
The lyrics are a perfect sum up for their relationship, especially the chorus that made me think immediately of B/S from a Spike POV when I first heard that song
Good night sweet girl (Ghost of the robot)
Not all of the lyrics are Spuffy fitting, but a lot of it is, promising a future for the pair that they should have. (submitted by BuffysAngel315)
How deep (Lee Aaron)
When I first heard that song it reminded me immediately of Spuffy. The whole lyrics are so perfect from the beginning about the first meeting and the question at how could they have known back then that they could take it that far over the chorus about how deep their feelings for each other really go to the last part about the insecurities they still seem to have in their relationship. I dunno, it just seemed to fit, especially the unspoken question about the sincerity of their emotions and their depth.
If I am (Nine Days)
It signifies the way Spike treated Buffy since he realized that he was in love with her. The song is about Spike`s feelings and how he will "never leave her" and how he will "never let her down" (submitted by Misz Erica)
If tomorrow never comes (Ronan Keating)
Why I chose this song? Basically because the first part of the lyrics are so much like a Spike watching Buffy from afar and fearing to come close and revealing his true feelings for her while the latter parts of the lyrics are for the Spike who is thinking of what will happen with those feelings he's hoping for her to have once he's gone and what will happen to her should that occur.
If you could only see (Tonic)
It reminds me on how it shows how much Buffy cares for Spike, but she always attempts to hide it or tries to find ways to challenge herself, trying to tell herself that she doesn`t have any feelings towards Spike (submitted by Misz Erica)
Iris (Goo Goo Dolls)
The lyrics describe exactly how Spike feels, he just wants Buffy to see the real Spike, the person behind the monster and demon. (submitted by Sabrina)
Just that good (The Calling)
It signifies Buffy`s "superiority", when she was talking to her now-vamped-and-dust friend from high school. and i think that it also signifies Spike trying to break through to her during season six... that he was actually want she wanted; what she needed. She still wants and needs him, by the way. `-=) (submitted by Misz Erica)
Lady (David Hasselhoff)
This one was just a short piece of lyrics that resemble Spike’s feelings for her while say watching her from afar through the windows of her house.
Lonely is the night (David Hasselhoff)
For this one I cannot decide whether it might be Buffy’s or Spike’s POV in the song, it could easily be both and is either Buffy sort of realizing her true feelings for Spike after having succeeded in driving him finally away or Spike remembering how much he loves her after having left her like she’d always wanted
Love rescue me (U2) *new*
I picture them dancing to this in LA , upon being reunited. It's a very slow, sensual melody. :) (submitted by Islandvisions)
My Immortal (Evanescence) *new*
These lyrics I can picture for the time after Chosen, Buffy thinking of Spike, his sacrifice and what he meant to her and still does (submitted by Gaby)
Night Fall (Rob Halford)
These lyrics are a bit of a darker nature and maybe fit more to the Buffy before she broke up with Spike (that time frame of Dead things) or they can also easily be fit onto Spike who unconsciously realizes what his love for Buffy means for him (with her not loving him back and hurting him in the process, both physically and also his feelings but him not being able to break free from her). This one might not exactly be Spuffy friendly, but when I was listening to it the last time, I immediately thought of Buffy and Spike’s relationship.
Our first night together (David Hasselhoff & Catherine Hickland)
This piece actually I see as a duet between Buffy and Spike, standing before their first night together (not sex so get your mind out of the gutter *g*) but more their first night where they truly are together admitting their love (okay, maybe having some sex afterwards, but let’s dismiss that for the moment). Let’s say it’s just like the moment after ‘Once more with feeling’ when they first kissed.
Prisoner of your eyes Version I (Rob Halford) Version II (Judas Priest)
This one I chose because I found the lyrics so fitting to the Buffy/Spike relationship, both being sort of Spike’s POV either maybe after Buffy’s death or after her cruel break-up with him This song actually has two versions of it and somehow they both fit, the first one with Spike in the role of the one trying to figure out what has happened after Buffy left him and thinking again that it was her, who had made him go on and not kill himself after being chipped and cast out branded traitor among his own kind, his feelings for her and how he’s lost himself in her. The second one I see again as Spike thinking about Buffy shortly after the break-up and desperately trying to figure out why she left him and also pulling himself back together again.
Possession (Sarah McLachlan)
This song is so romantic and for a romantic girl like me the perfect character piece for Spike, thinking of Buffy while laying inside his crypt or just again watching her from the distance.
Rebel Yell (Billy Idol)
The song reminds me of how buffy kept on going to spike to "feel alive", and and how she wanted "more, more, more !" of his love during season 6. (submitted by Misz Erica)
Shadow on the wall (Mike Oldfield)
I think this song sums up the relationship Buffy and Spike have during Season 6 from a Spike POV rather. It so well fits how Buffy treats Spike, how she's using him while he can't turn her away because he loves her but still remembering what he truly is.
She (Rob Halford)
I absolutely love that song and from the first time I've listened to that one, I thought of the B/S relationship from a Spike POV in the way he sees Buffy. The song tells about a gentle Buffy in her treatment towards Spike, just like the way he deserves it to be. It could be the kind of relationship Spike is imagining theirs to be or one that finally is the way it should be.
Slide (Goo Goo Dolls)
It`s how Spike feels and he wants Buffy to finally admit her feelings for him, because he knows those feelings are there - only Buffy`s pride seems to get in the way and she ends up hurting him again instead of proclaiming her undying love for him (submitted by Misz Erica)
Still in love (No Angels)
What I love about that song is aside from the softer tune is how the lyrics would be so fitting for a Buffy that has finally realized just how much she loves Spike well after he's gone and left her for good. It's so romantic just pretending while listening to that song that it truly is Buffy singing about all that she'd had in Spike and now lost because she couldn't reveal her true feelings for him.
Still loving you (The Scorpions)
So fitting lyrics for Buffy and Spike to try and start on building their relationship again after the mess that was end of Season6 and before from both points of view in my opinion as they struggle with their confused feelings and getting back what was there at the beginning before everything turned upside down. (submitted by Sandy)
Strange Relationship (Darren Hayes)
Why? Well, basically, it just sums up their relationship perfectly... With the whole, 'I hate you, but I love you' thing that they've both had going on for quite some time now. I knew before I ever even heard the song that this was perfect material for future fiction. lol... (submitted by Melissa)
Stuck (Stacie Orrico) *new*
Because it reminds me of how Buffy feels for Spike in season 6 and 7. Because she hates him and loves him just like the words to that very song. And it's like a Buffy POV of Spike pretty much. (submitted by Mz Prudence)
These lovin' eyes (David Hasselhoff) *new*
When I first listened to that song I immediately thought of Spuffy, my romantic heart just made me do so. And now having seen 'Touched', I'm surer than before that this is just perfect for the Spuffy scene there.
Waiting for a girl like you (Foreigner)
Those lyrics are so perfect for describing Spike's feelings for Buffy in the meaning of just how long he had to wait, namely his entire life and un-life to find a girl like Buffy whom he loves unconditionally.
We've got tonight (Ronan Keating & Jeanette)
Very fitting in my opinion to a Buffy and Spike meeting at the Bronze one night, realizing that they are both lonely when they could be with each other, right now and afterwards.
You're all I am (Foreigner)
This is a Spike trying his best to give Buffy in return what she has given to him - the will to live again, just something sweet describing the tentative starts of the relationship they should have developed
You're so real (Matchbox 20)
I think this describes Spikes thoughts during season six (pre- As you were), he loves her, and gets her anyway he can. He still reassures her, because his famous "cold comfort" is there. He is so happy just to be near her, that he's almost afraid to jinx it. He wants to be there for her and open up to him, but is having trouble "connecting". (submitted by Kryptonite1221)
If you know some more, please mail me the title and artist with a short description as to why you think them so fitting for Buffy and Spike. If you have the lyrics, that'd be great, if not I can go looking for them as well.
