Author’s notes: This little piece of insanity had been inspired by one tiny interaction between Trip and Shran during ‘Shadow of P’Jem’ (I think that’s the original title), or at least from the translated version that aired here in Germany. It was also very late at night and guess what I was watching after an enormous amount of sugar and right before I sat down and wrote this *eg*? It’s probably not very good, I know that but I’m just having a bit of fun with the characters and this is purely parody.

The Best and Brightest
by Belladonna

It had been a day like everyone else on board of the Starship Enterprise, the pride and joy of the still young but uprising organization named Starfleet. It had a promising future ahead as had its flagship with the tradition heavy name Enterprise. Its crew were the finest that Starfleet had to offer, each one handpicked by its captain to ensure that only the best and brightest were put together for this special crew.

But the captain still was only human and wasn’t it the human way to err at times?

“Are you pondering what I am pondering, Trip?“ It had been a long day for Malcolm Reed, not one of his more successful ones so to speak, not one of his plans had turned out bearing fruits. And he wasn’t talking about the pineapple cake that he’d gotten for dessert after dinner. Maybe it were the circumstances that corrupted his plans, but now he seemed to have everything worked out perfectly, it was foolproof so to speak.

“I think so, Mal.” Trip answered his friend, nearly bouncing with excitement on his chair. “Jon would look smashing in a pink tutu the next time he’s having one of his first contact speeches.”

“That’s not quite what I had in mind, Trip.” Malcolm sighed heavily. Or maybe it had been the company. Unperturbed by all that Trip continued bouncing around.

“But it would be fun, you betcha. Narf.”

The End.
